European Portrait Porcelain Painting Icon FRAMED Mother child SIGNED 19th century hallmarked mechanical

Porcelain paintings were first produced in Europe during the middle of the 19th century. This Madonna and son, also called Madonna of the poor, would probably have been a smaller version of a well-known paintings of the day. The best ones came from KPM, Berlin's royal factory and have the KPM insignia etched on the back. These treasures are a rare find in today‘s artistic world. Portraits on porcelain were of very high quality and should be appreciated for artistic achievement and beauty in their own right. This one is one of the most beautifully detailed ones I have seen. AND it is in its original fretted brass hinged case with cover that was actually made by a jeweler for it. Dating in the 1800’s, this masterpiece is SUPERB and the crisp details and strong colors in this piece is exquisite. Since it is a mother and child it would be one of the most touching gifts to a new mother to give to her child as an heirloom. Few people have the opportunity to own such a piece and this one will be one that is treasured for sure.
The golden frame is made as many icons are, with the protective fret work hinged shutters on it in the front. This one is also hinged on the back so the painting can be inserted into it. The child’s face on this is one of the most angelic and innocent of any I have seen so be sure to click on the photos to enlarge it. I know once you see it up close you will certainly be in awe of this most talented artist.
The whole frame is 7 ˝” x 5 ˝” ( when opened) and the portrait is 3 ˝” x 2 ˝”. The back of the portrait has a stamp with writing on it and an impressed E. . There are a few small chips on the edge of the back which do not effect the front when viewed . The frame which has the jewelers mark of MV with a hammer in-between is a high quality piece. It stands on its own and is very mechanical. I can’t say enough nice things about this because everywhere you look, you see a long gone talent in the metal work to the tremendous painting.

Signed Abstract surrealism MIRO Vintage Lithograph

This litho can be referenced on a few art sites and I have included a photo of one of the references . As you can see it is in great condition & is priced at $650.00. This abstract is done by Joan Miro. Joan Miró i Ferrŕ (April 20, 1893 – December 25, 1983) was a Catalan (Spanish) painter, sculptor, and ceramist born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain to the family of a Goldsmith and Watchmaker. His work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods and his desire to "kill", "murder", or "rape" them in favor of more contemporary means of expression. This is one of the rarer ones on the market and has a higher price than most when in perfect condition. As you can see it has some problems, which when framed properly are almost unnoticable. ( see closeups) . When asked how he came up with these original paintings he said "How did I think up my drawings and my ideas for painting? Well I'd come home to my Paris studio in Rue Blomet at night, I'd go to bed, and sometimes I hadn't any supper. I saw things, and I jotted them down in a notebook. I saw shapes on the ceiling..”. Obviously an artist with a very creative imagination! Many of his pieces are exhibited today in the Fundació Joan Miró in Montjuďc, Barcelona and the U.S. National Gallery in Washington, D.C. This one measures 7 1/2” x 10” and is sold as found. Only a 1000 were made and this is numbered.

18th CENTURY IVORY Figural MONK Page turner

This is genuine ivory and such a wonderful old carving of a monk with exceptional carving on the blade of the turner. The attention to detail is something that just makes your mouth gape open because the figure is carved with such a lifelike pose. The gentleman looks like st NICK to some but I was told it was a monk who was also some sort of craftsman. He has two tools in his hands and an apron that ties in the back. On his head is a skull cap of sorts. The fleur de lis drapes down the handle of the blade. This measures 10" long and 1" wide and has rich coloring to the aged ivory. This is not bone. As you can see by the photo of his legs in the back he needs repair so he will be sold as is.

Antique English Sterling Hallmarked Baby Rattle Whistle

Silver rattles( teething-sticks ) have been traditional christening presents for well over 200 years. Sometimes called Elizabethan inventories, rattles were a combination of a whistle & bells to create a noisy toy that could amuse a child for hours. Silver was known to kill bacteria and was known as a natural antibiotic and preventative against infections which would be a very good reason for its use in items given to babies. This repousse antique silver baby rattle is embossed on both sides with ornate scrolling patterns and has a beautiful mother or pearl teether. It also has its original ring where it would have hung from a chatelaine or cord near the baby's crib. It's nicely detailed and has a working whistle on the end. Attached are 2 bells that still dingle It's in excellent condition with no dents or damage and measures 2 1/2" long. The Hallmarks are on both sides. This dates about 1901 and was made in Birmingham according to the marks which are an ANCHOR LION N. This was made by Adie & Lovekin Ltd. (c.1880-1910). This company made everything from pin cushions to pen knives and has a reputation for their attention to detail and high quality items. This came from the same estate as the GORHAM SNake Dragon Griffin Sterling PURSE frame I have for sale. I guarantee this is an antique rattle and not a reproduction.

Feast your eyes on all the fine detail that has been impressed onto this ancient Chinese goddess. The person who wore this adornment was most definitely a purveyor of the bounty of the sea. (Whether it was pearls, oysters, fine exotic fish or caviar.. Who can say for certain!.) This lovely, character -laden woman is guaranteed to be very old. The jade at the top of this piece is lovely and just begs to be touched and fondled. 1885 Handpainted portrait in silk locket case

This dated, portrait of a young woman, is so detailed that you might thin it it a real photo. But you can see if you look close, the brush lines on the delicate lace top she is wearing. She has tiny stud earrings in her ear and that is just enough for such a feminine dress. The hard case is silk and it measures 3 1/3” long. It has discoloration on it but no silk loss. This is hinged so it would sit on a vanity or dresser. Yet it was portable so it could be taken with them when they traveled. The date is on the left side of the case.

EXOTIC ART DECO Reverse Painting GORGEOUS WOMAN !

When you see this up close you are really going to appreciate the painting on this. I have one close- up of the work and you can see the delicate brush strokes. This has the most vibrant reds against this black background. The glare takes away from it but you can see the woman‘s white skin which is almost Asian and it looks like Chinese paintings you see on ivory with the soft natural shading. . This is reverse painted . I am not sure if this is the original frame but it fits it well. The full length is 9 ˝" and it is in very good condition the frame has one nick on it .

Known artist SIGNED 1822 IVORY PORTRAIT FRAMED woman Royalty

This woman seems possibly to be an aristocrat or of a royal family. Notice the upswept coif of hair and the intricate braidwork. Then as you see her dress, you can tell that this woman was from a very well to do family. On the back it is written Painted by A R BURT Chester July 1822. ( I added a photo in case you can make it out better) . This artist is Albin Roberts Burt ( 1784-1842). There are 6 of his portraits in the National portrait Gallery of London. Around her shoulders she wears a soft tulle collar with a red ruby clasp. She also wears a lace shawl around her shoulders, below that. The frame is a blackened crackle wood and the gilt bale that holds the photo in is really fancy. The glass is not flat, but slightly rounded out and hand cut. $1950.00

Vintage Oriental Carved NUDE Erotica Snuff Bottle

The first known examples of Chinese erotic art and texts date back over two thousand years – erotic art is an integral part of China’s cultural heritage. It is a very collectible item when found in jewelry. The paintings and drawings way back when were made under the pretext of providing instruction for shy or inexperienced young people, though one is left wondering who might have been the intended recipients of male love art.
This carved bone or ivory snuff bottle measures 3 1/4” long and is made so that one side is erotica and the other a lotus blossom so as not to offend anyone. That way the bottle can be held with the image facing out that was appropriate. It is in very good condition.

OLD Memento Masthead angel Harp Necklace enamel & Glass

From what I understand from the history of this, this Brass piece was from a horse that was ridden in a show in England. The owner then had it mounted on this heavy brass necklace so they could have the piece close to their heart. The dearly loved horse has since passed which makes this quite a wonderful memento. Horse brasses were sometimes used to adorn the harness horses, primarily in the UK, many would be for decoration, royalty, shows and different industries such as train or ale. Some older brasses were worn on harness, others were just made primarily to commemorate a certain event. It is hard to date many harness brasses, yet you can get an idea from the patina as well as how well the brass is cast. Stamped brasses are from the early 1900's and only up to the 1930's. Most brasses you come across were cast and often the getts (the holder for the casting) is left partly on the back of the brass. This one is stamped England and at one time was polished to make it into this necklace so you can see a lacquer that is still on it. The center of this is so magnificnet with a ships masthead of a flying angel and a harp with black enamel. The pendant ( or ornament is 3 1/4" long across and the thick triple chain is an additional 23". The center stone on the pendant is dimpled carnival glass. Quite an interesting piece an really lovely when worn. I think the brass could be polished so all of it is non-laquered which would really makes this look pretty too.

RARE enamel Military Hat locket BRooch & ORIGINAL CARD

With crossed rifles on the back of this to support the photo, this WW11 enamel military helmet lifts up to to reveal an old photo fo Humphrey Bogart?. I believe this was the original photo that came with it when it was first sold. I know that CORO made a number of military lockets and brooches to help support the soldiers at war. I don’t know of any other manufacturers that made these so I would attribute it to them. This one measures 1 1/2” long and is made so that the hinge is on the top. When you lift it up you see the photo. I find it really interesting to see the rifles that form the frame on the back of the locket. This has a C clasp pin back to attach it to a dress or shirt. The card is original as is the locket. The locket has never been worn ( and I don’t think it was ever off the card before I took this photo. The carboard background has MILITARY HAT LOCKET and “wear his picture tip hat back”.
IN very good original condition, this is a real TREASURE!!!

This is from an estate that has antique Asian & South American items that were purchased by antique dealers during the 20's. The estate is being sold and these are some of the pieces. This is for the vase and the sad irons sold as one lot. This huge heavy hand hammered dragon ( actually called a Chimera) vase has a fish mouthed serpent wrapped around the neck and TWO fish mouthed dragons wrapped around the bowl. ART DECO MEDUSA Egyptian HEAD glass brass FRAME sterling ORNATE Gothic WITh CHild PHOTO signed

Medusa was originally a beautiful nymph, "the jealous aspiration of many suitors," but when she was taken by poseidon in Athena's temple, the goddess transformed her beautiful hair to serpents and she made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn a man to stone. This antique frame has been made so the brass Medusa heads show up on the outside of the glass in a second frame. The top and bottom have a glass Egyptian head that is set in filigree brass. The edges are gorgeous with etched flowers. The back is velvet and has a silk old ribbon that keeps the hinge open so it stands. Inside is a photo with an inscription of the adorable little boy in the old photo. This is 11 ˝ x 8 ˝" and has its original glass and old velvet matting ( needs changing). The neatest thing about this is can have a whole photo that shows to the edge or a matting will fill the double frame on the edges in the front This is marked sterling ( see close-up) but it looks brass to me. Sold as is. Frame is good and velvet needs a little brushing.

WW11 Vintage LUCITE Nurse Purse BOX with history

Long before 'Women's Lib," decades prior to Gloria Steinem, brave women were putting themselves in harm's way without so much as a backward glance towards equality or feminism. They were (and still are!) the amazing nurses serving in the United States armed forces. Thousands of nurses served on "Comfort Ships," which were strategically moored in high conflict areas where immediate medical attention was critical! During WWII, the nurses on the "comfort ships" were more than likely to keep their supplies and necessities in a maroon and white lucite box such as this one. The gentleman from whom we purchased this box assured us that his wife had, indeed, used this very box. (Her initials are on it.) While researching this lovely lucite box, we were unable to find any ship manifests for staff and crew members who survived the wars. (We were, however, able to trace those who lost their lives in their valiant endeavors. Very interesting reading, indeed!) When we questioned the gentleman as to why he was willing to part with such an incredible piece of family history, he sadly said that he and his wife had no children and nobody close to him who would appreciate this treasure! We are hoping that this historical box finds its way to a new home where it will be respectful of all the places it's been and all the memories it holds. Thank you for looking at this unique piece. It is ALL lucite ( and shiny, unlike my photos) and measures 8” x 4” x 2 1/2” tall ( has felt on the bottom) . It has all its original hinges and her Initials PD on the top. Out of respect we are not disclosing her name.

STERLING NOUVEAU figural Nymph MIRROR

This is an OUTSTANDING beautiful figural antique hallmarked and DATED sterling heavy hand mirror. The exotic calla lilies stretch across the top of the mirror and the woman’s face comes out of the leaves at the bottom of the handle like a nymph in the woods. At the top of the center calla lily are the hallmarks ( see photo of the close up of them) which I am able to verify via a silver website if you want the link). At the base of the mirror, a single calla lily floats down to reach the woman’s face. This weighs over 1 POUND and is quite a substantial piece. When you turn the mirror over you see the woman’s head at the bottom and one very fancy flower that rises up to the mirror itself. The mirror is in great shape and is beveled as well. Around it is ornate sterling braid work. This hand mirror measures 10 ˝" x 5" at its widest and is 1" THICK. IT has a very unusual shape to it which makes you know it had the a hand cut mirror. This is in such great shape and has wonderful silver patina to it. A true collectors item. This is one of the finest English sterling vanity mirrors I have ever seen. The marks are the lion and the anchor and AN E in lower case and WD for WD (William Davenport Birmingham 1888-1904). From what I understand it was one of the last years for him to make such beautiful pieces. There is a tiny flake missing off one of the bezel cuts of the mirror.

ART nouveau sterling sardine bowl mermaid fish HANDLE

This adorable footed scandinavian Nouveau small sterling bowl was used for sardines (I was told this by another dealer who looked at it for us) and it has cherub like heads with fish tails ( mermaids?) as handles and hand worked repousse work on just about every part of it. This has a LOT Of hallmarks which include BM U 925 P and BM N and two mystery hallmarks. The work on this is high quality and lots of detail including the house, the ships and the windmills. Definitely was an expensive piece when it was first made. The size is smaller than most with the total width at 3 ź" ( not including the handles) The fact that the handles have some sort of fish like tail makes me think this that the fact it would have held sardines is very true. I have included a lot of photos of the marks so please be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them to see them up close. It has good weight to it and is really well made too.

RARE 19th CENTURY GORHAM SNake Dragon Griffin Sterling PURSE frame & Florette CHAIN MUSEUM PIECE

This RARE 1860’s solid sterling Gorham double purse frame and florette chain is adorned with TWO serpents to hold the chain, four large griffins or winged dragon like creatures which each hold a long horn full of flowers and roses. I have never seen another like this ( and Gorham frames are VERY VERY hard to come by.
Truly a specially commissioned piece that was for someone very high in society. Although Gorham is probably more well known for their flatware and serving pieces, they also produced incredibly rich and fabulous silver smalls, as well as purses and purse frames .Other than Tiffany, Gorham was THE best in silver and this one tops them all. Surely a museum piece, this has its original thick solid sterling florette chain with hand soldered thick link. Notice the loop on the front of the purse that flips up and down to hold a chatelaine
The closure works well and the it has a fancy button push in clasp. This is not small by any means and would have probably had a black fine French silk bottom. The measurements are 6 ž” from outer hinge to outer hinge. 4” from the top of the button clap to the lowest point on the frame. Almost ˝” wide and with a chain that is 17” long and 1/3” wide, this is an IMPRESSIVE PIECE! Notice the raised relief on the lip of the top of the frame. No place on this was left untouched. Even better than the photos this HIGH QUALITY antique purse is a MUST for handbag collectors as well as Gorham sterling collectors. Inside the marks are an lion, an anchor and a G. Using the Gorham hallmark index, this dates 1863-1890. IT hardly needs any polishing and since it is quite a wonderful mythological piece of art as well as a FANTASTIC purse frame, this is one of kind that needs to be in a home where it will really be treasured! This one will require insurance when shipped in the US. .

RARE ANTIQUE Ming Dynasty AESTHETIC STERLING SPIDER hair ornaments or Place CARD HOLDERS This is for one of two sets of antique sterling spun spider web large place card holders or Chinese hair ornaments from the 17th Century (Ming period or later) that I have and I can guarantee they are very rare indeed. Completely hand wrought with SIX spiders and webs that are very realistic too!. These measure 2 1/2" across and each is a bit individual from each other. In the late 1800's, Darwin's controversial theories on evolution, as well as new botanical discoveries taking place, created popular interest in the natural world. Some are typical jewelry items, for example - gem set butterflies, gold houseflies, enameled beetles, silver monkeys, etc. But there are also more unusual forms of ornaments. These can be used to hold the place cards for dinner tables and to hold a persons calling card ( because the part that fits in the hair acts a little stand) or as hair ornaments. These are really rare so don't miss out at the last minute. $450.00 Please use this # when ordering ga3292

FABULOUS MARBLE Deco CLock & Sconce pair gilt BIRDS Mantle Figural gilt clock that works too

This is one neat genuine deco clock that has gilt birds on each side ( bronze or brass I think) and they are set in this heavy marble base. The set probably weighs about 40 pounds and it is really gorgeous. The sconces have the very Greek designs that you see in museum statues and they measure 13" tall and 4" wide. The clock is 16" long and 9 ˝" tall. It is electric ( I guarantee this is OLD) and it runs great. The back has this written: manufactured under pat‘s 1719808797912 re_177990 Other pat‘s . Made in USA 11-5 b-60 Cycle 2w. The knobs have a start button, set time button and a note on the back when the current interrupts the clock will stop so you need to reset it. . This is just such a great set and made of real fine marble. This is in great shape . IT looks to me to be all original too. The bottom base had a crack and was professionally repaired and it is as sturdy as when it was first made. ( see photo) . This is sold as is ( working of course) This will require insurance. approx shipping is about $30.00 thru fed ex. IF it is more I will let you know, if less I will refund the difference if you pay the $30.00.

PRIMITIVE EARLY STANDING Buddha Architectural BRONZE finial

This is one of the earliest forms of Buddha and the one I am selling is a very old primitive bronze from earlier periods. The face has a well-formed forehead and high cheek-bones, downcast eyes, aquiline nose, small mouth and pointed chin In keeping with the Pagan schema, the ears do not touch the shoulder The clothing on the body has a wet appearance and the outer garment looks as if it is part of the arms. There are three folds across the stomach and a line dividing the garment between the legs. The knee caps are visible through the clothing. As in the few bronze images that have lasted thru the years, the pleating around the periphery of the robe is stiff and stylized. The hands are raised before the breast in the dharmacakra or preaching position. The stance this statue takes comes from the years 1044-1287 . Notice the back hair with the high coiled chignons. This has a metal rod that comes from the back where it would have been placed into another piece of architectural metal. This measures 3 ž” long and is in great condition.

1920 ART DECO EXQUISITE SIGNED FILIGREE watchband

This is one of the most feminine art deco filigree watch bands I have ever seen. Not only is it extremely well made but it is signed Lorna on the back ( with pat pending next to the name). The filigree is just gorgeous and even the sides are filigree. This is hinged all the way around and it graduates from ź" to 1/3" at the ends so it will gracefully accept a watch. This would be so beautiful on an art deco enamel or diamond watch! This measures 5 ź" long and it stretches like speidels do so you don’t have to latch it once you have the watch on. What is great about this is that the way you put the watch on requires NO TECHNICAL skills or a jeweler. The ends have a push in part on the inside like a bale for a pendant is and you just slip your watch bar on the side of your watch in. In great shape this is well worth buying because it is a true period piece.

Exquisite Victorian Repousse ornate Matchsafe Vesta

This double sides match safe with striker bottom is so gorgeous and can has now begun to come back with a new purpose. Women are having loops soldered on the tops and are wearing them as pendants that hold dollar bills and coins and pills. What a great idea! And what beautiful pendants these make. This one measures 2 1/2” x 1 1/2” and it is as shiny and rich as sterling. The hinge is very tight so you can put a weighty item inside and it will not open. This is marked silveroid which was mainly used for watch cases. I haven’t seen many silveroid matchsafes. Silveroid is a special alloy that was developed and was fairly hard wearing and could withstand the rigors of everyday use, It was easy to polish, very hard and looked just like coin silver. $125.00

20's DECO MARBLE slate CLOCK fireplace sconces and black pink original 13pcs estate restoration

This is part of an old Louisiana southern estate we bought years back. I have been selling pieces off of it for years and here is more. If you are restoring an old house we have PLENTY of architectural and metal parts that were once part of this fabulous old house.I have more photos of the pieces if you would like to email me.
I think this is all either slate and marble or just different shades of marble ( I am not sure how to tell the difference). I think most of this is from a fireplace along with the clock. ALL the pieces are marble or slate.
I will try and give you an idea of what the sizes are and what I think they are for. There is a total of 13. ( I also have the doorknobs, stained glass and oil fonts from this same house).
The first is the solid marble or slate clock . What an exciting piece it is! It is made in three pieces: the base, the housing and the dome top. The base is 12" x 5 ˝" and it carved on the edges like molding you find on the ceiling or floor. The clock is ( widest part) 8 ˝" x 8" tall and 4 ˝"deep at the deepest point. The circle in the front is 4 ˝" across and the circle in the back is the same. The top piece which is arched and has a pink inset is 7 ˝" long and 5" wide and 2" high. The front of the clock has white marble and gold designs.
Also there are two big squares with center holes. Both are 8" x9" and the hole is 6 ž" wide.
The two scroll like sconces are 7" long x 4 ˝" wide and they stand out from the wall 3 3/8". These are really fancy with rose marble insets and they look like they would go under a fire place mantle.
There is one fancy flat piece that has ridges in it and a fancy top that looks like it is the top to something and it measures 10 ž" long and 4 ž" wide ( 1 5/8" high) .
There are 2 more bases with edges like molding and they are 13 ˝" long x 6 5/8" wide ( the broken in half one ) and the other is 8 ź" x 5 3/8".
There are two square ones that look like fireplace tiles , one is 5 5/8" x 5 5/8"and the other is 3 ž" x 5 ˝’.
These were rescued from that same home I mentioned and you can even see some of the old plaster where they were taken off the walls. This is a great project because there are so many pieces all original to each other. Some have chips and are not perfect, but considering you are getting something from the art deco period you could use these to restore a house and or create your own little deco theme. These are REALLY heavy. Just guessing it is over 60 pounds of marble or slate. I will use fed ex. I think it should cost about $50.00 to send it ( unless it goes over weight) . I will charge actual shipping so if it is less or more that is what it will cost you . This is sold as is and is for restoration.

OLD Child's DOLL Victorian WIcker Rocking Chair

I think this chair is pretty old and it is just a darling piece!! We used it in our store to display our antique dolls ( to give you an idea of its size I put a 15" Grace Putnam doll in it which is for sale in above) and bought it at an estate in Charleston SC .It has pretty wooden beads woven into the back and the white paint on it gives it a soft shine. I don’t think it has ever been re-painted so it must be original. The paint is solid and must have been put on wel because it is hardly flaking. It has cross bars on the bottom for support. This measures 19" tall x 18" wide ( arm to arm) and the seat is 10" wide. A little unraveling in a few places ( the under corner of one arm and one bar that runs down he back. Nothing that caused it to be weakened. Just cosmetic. I can ship it fed ex to the US ( I think international might be fairly expensive ). I will only charge actual shipping ( which includes $100.00 insurance) of around $30.00. It is it less I will let you know and refund the difference. This is an adorable chair for old dolls or little girls rooms and I hope it gets a good home because it is a real treasure!

Lorgnette EXQUISITE Vintage 19th Century Opera Glasses

Top quality antique glasses such as these are quite remarkable. Opera Glasses are hand held spectacles (eyeglasses) that were fashionable during the Victorian and Edwardian periods (third quarter of the 1800's to 1920). Theater binoculars which were known for being discreet and compact low-power binoculars were usually used at performance events such as Shows, Operas, Ballet, Musicals and Plays.
The Iridescent pastels on these reflect a rich rainbow of high lights. French Lemaire glasses were one of the first of these beauties to be used in the early 1800’s . These are mechanical opera glasses with extending and detachable lorgnette handle. Beautiful mother of pearl paneling surround both the handle and the binoculars in a bright hue.
The mechanism on this pair is truly a work of art, you can extend and detach the lorgnette handle and use it is for focusing the binocular barrels as well!
Marked on the eyepieces with a B enclosed in a lozenge The making of fine opera glasses entailed knowledge not only in optics. Each glass was worked on by painters, goldsmiths and other artists.
By the second half of the 19th century they had become essential fashion accessories for theatre- goers. Many opera glasses were given as gifts and tributes, as can be learned from the inscriptions found on many of them. By the second half of the 19th century they had become essential fashion accessories for theatre- goers. These are beautiful enough to display and are in very good working order that you can actually take them with you the opera and use them. They have been well cared for and are in very good condition. They measure 4" wide and 2" tall . The handle goes from 10" to 17 ˝". long. What A TREASURE~!

1894 VIctorian STERLING Hallmarked HUGE Vanity set

Can you imagine this on an antique vanity? Solid sterling pieces that are so richly decorated that you can only be very impressed with the craftsmanship that went into these gorgeous pieces! There are TWO large brushes, a wisk brush, nail implement and shoe horn, nail buffer and I am also including the oddest round hand mirror I have seen. It almost looks like it should open up like a compact ( but this one is HUGE) because you can see little knob like things on the sides. I can’t figure out and if it opens so I will leave that to the new owner. ALL the pieces are marked sterling except that mirror . I made a close up in the photo with all the pieces of the hallmarks and as you can see one is dated 1894 and others are marked Birk sterling , W sterling, F& B sterling and one that is marked with the Lion, an anchor and another mark I can’t make out. The largest piece is 9” long and the mirror and two brushes are 7” each. The lot of these are very elaborate and in very good condition less the mirror which has scratches.

Antique IVORY Portrait Redhead Framed 19th century

This is an exquisite 19th century double framed ( from an art gallery) portrait on ivory that has a red head with an upswept style and lovely soft tulle that looks like a cloud around her shoulders. She is 4” tall and she has her original metal ribbon frame which is inset into a deep red velvet. Not often do you see the redheads so this makes her a bit more desirable. ANtique carved Chinese sarcophagus Miniature Coffin Grand TOUR ITEM RARE!!

This is an antique mechanical miniature of an honored and revered Chinese individual who was very high in the ranking system of the Chinese culture. I believe this is a grand tour chamber crypt that would have been given with the utmost respect and honor to whomever received it. What you don’t know about this piece is that the translation for the inscription on the removable panel on the front it is “champion Scholar, a person of high rank and honor,” and in the Asian culture that person would have been ranked almost as high as the Imperial family . Not only is this a most unusual piece but it is also one that has was hand carved of onyx or bone and inside is a very tiny coffin that slides out when you open the panel at the front. That scholars have long held a place of honor and authority in China is well known. The practice of appointing men to office on the basis of preliminary academic qualifications can be traced back for over 2000 years. How this came about was when the Chinese imperial examination system ( a method to evaluate ability and select officials in dynastic China on the basis of merit rather than social position or political connections) would evaluate scholars and people with vast knowledge. The origin of the system can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220).From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The Chinese imperial examinations attracted many foreign candidates, who not only passed related exams but also were granted official titles and positions. .This puzzle-like stone mausoleum has the lotus flower on the top and front panel. The Lotus flower has for thousands of years symbolized spiritual enlightenment. In Egyptian myths, the Sun-god was reborn each day of a huge Lotus blossom which grew in Nun, the Primordial Sea from which arose all life, including the gods. Egyptian tomb inscriptions expressed the desire of the dead to possess immortality like the Sun-god, they too would rise each day from the Underworld, via the great Lotus to enjoy eternal life. Often the occupant of the tomb is shown seated holding a Lotus blossom near his nose smelling its life-giving aroma. The Lotus, also known as the “sea rose”, is unique and important because of its close association with Buddhism. The Lotus is one of the “eight precious things” of Buddhism. This is why the Buddha sits on a lotus in bloom. Another little known fact is that a lotus blossom decoration is found only on Chinese coffins . The culture of building huge tomb mounds spread from the Kinai area to other parts of the country, and by the early fourth century kofun took on a greater variety of forms-some square, some gourd-shaped, were being built in northern Kyushu. But it was in the fifth century that they underwent their most drastic change, with a corridor leading to the burial chamber, giving rise to the culture of family tombs. This piece is in great condition and the only thing it needs is a new wooden dowel to keep the top firmly attached ( one dowel is present)$

OLD Victorian Ivory Bone Stanhope MONOCULAR RARE with book reference

As you can see this one ( first two photos and the one your are bidding on ) is very close to the original Stanhope in the last photo. This is 1" long and has ridges in it like bone or ivory and even some darkening. A little history on these tiny miniatures : ( The last photo is an original Victorian one) . Charles Stanhope, politician and scientist, born August 3, 1753 invented a printing press, calculating machines, & the lens named after him. Used originally as a powerful microscope lens, it is basically a circular glass rod about 3mm in diameter and 8mm long, one end convex, the other flat. Photomicrography (first used 1853) made possible the production of the tiny transparent photos needed for the Stanhope Viewers. ( see my last photo of an original monocular shaped bone viewer ) Lenses and photos usually made in France. Earliest date from 1860s, made well into 20th century - majority date from 1890s and later, and contain photos containing one to a dozen different views. The Lords prayer is in side this one ( top two photos) and is fully intact. I believe this one to be quite a rare find so don’t miss out at the last minute. Photo of the prayer is not clear but the prayer is in perfect condition and bright

Framed Vintage Pre-Raphaelite carved MARBLE Druidess raised relief

This is one of three Goddess like plaques made of what I think might be some sort of marble or stone. The top and bottom of the slate colored frame has a fleur de lis and has rich veining in it. The stunning woman in the center has a sickle and uncut mistletoe which makes me think she is a druidess. The Druids were well versed in astrology, magic, and the mysterious powers of plants and animals; they held the oak tree and the mistletoe, especially when the latter grew on oak trees, in great reverence, and they customarily conducted their rituals in oak forests. An Earth based faith, Druidry melds the love of sea, sky, and land with ritual, story telling, poetry, music, and the visual arts. Druids are spiritual counselors and philosophers who offer guidance about the enigmas, conundrums, and problems of daily life.
This is in great condition and measures 8 1/2” tall.

19th century PINK Victorian era Dip quill pen & case

For all you ladies who LOVE PINK , here is a lovely vintage Victorian era quill or dip pen made by Aiken Lambert & Co in the late 1800's or early 1900's. This late 19th Century dip pen had a PINK mother of pearl handle and either a gold or gold filled nib with a gold or gold filled part that holds the nib. The nib is marked AIKEN. The geometric pattern, otherwise known as chased and engraved is a lovely example of work of this period. It has a beautiful engraved Art Deco design in the gold. It comes in its original leather box that is hinged with two sickle shaped sliding hooks. Aikin Lambert claimed to have been in business since 1864. Throughout the 1800s they produced a wide variety of mechanical pencils, jewelry and gold dip pens. Their pencils were of the magic style, twist actions and many were figural taking shapes such as bottles, bells and many others. They also produced toothpicks, ear spoons and thimbles. They sold wide selection of gold dip pens nibs from small to huge and in every style that was in demand. Many fountain pen companies purchased nibs from them to use in their pens including Waterman and Wirt.
This one is in great condition (coming from someone how knows nothing about the mechanical part of pens).
